Outcast 1.1 has been recompiled from the original source code and updated to run smoothly on modern computers. Improvements include a multithreaded voxel renderer, software bilinear filtering on polygonal meshes, a redesigned part of the HUD for higher resolutions, new high-resolution sky paintings, a new launcher, native Xbox gamepad support, user-friendly controller configuration, and bug fixes with improved stability.

As part of a covert experiment, the US military deployed a probe to prove the existence of a parallel universe. The probe reached a planet called Adelpha, but its first crucial data transmission was cut short. Its unexpected demise caused a black hole that threatens to destroy Earth unless the missing probe can be found and repaired.

The game offers vast and diverse continents to explore, inhabited by thousands of living creatures. It combines action and adventure with well-designed combat and complete freedom of movement, and features a memorable storyline set in the not-so-distant future.
